Our Beliefs

Our vision at SCC is to share Christ and connect the world to His Church, one person at a time.  We believe this can only happen as we stand on a strong foundation of the truth found in Scripture.  Below is a list summarizing the core beliefs that make up our statement of faith.

About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.  He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  These three are equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1; Psalm 90:2

About Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  He is equal with the Father.  Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 4:14-15; Matthew 1:22, 23; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11;1 Timothy 6:14-15

About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son of God (Jesus Christ).  He is present to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ.  He convicts man of his sin through the preached Word. He lives in every Christian, providing them with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.  He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved.  As Christians, we seek to walk with Him daily.
John 14:16-17; John 16:7b – 13; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

About humans

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character.  People are the supreme object of God’s creation.  Every person has tremendous potential for good, but through man’s choice all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”.   This attitude separates people from God.
Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23

About Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift to us that we must accept. We are saved by grace (God’s part) through faith (our part). Our faith response is repentance (a turning from our self-ruled life to a Jesus-ruled life), confession (that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of the Living God), and baptism (immersion) as the Scriptures command. We teach that salvation is by grace and accepted as a free gift from God.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; Romans 6:4-6; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1, Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21-22

About baptism

The New Testament teaches that when a person puts his faith in Jesus, that process is culminated by immersion in water. God intended baptism to be part of how a person puts his faith in Jesus.
Romans 5:1-2, Luke 24:45-47, Acts 3:19, 17:30, 2 Peter 3:9, Matthew 10:32, Romans 10:9, Philippians 2:11, 1 John 4:15, Romans 6:1-7, Galatians 3:27, and Colossians 2:12

About the bible

The Bible is God’s Word.  It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.  Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any error.  We maintain that the Bible alone is sufficient for our rule of faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5
